L -* > j (From Our Own Corerspondent.) | \ On Wednesday evening, Miss Bejt eridge, of the Opunake Tea Rooms, held a most successful progressive r euchre party in her spacious dining . rooms, funds being in aid of the local hospital. Despite inclement weather [ conditions there was a large ' attend- ' ance and a most enjoyable ev.ening was spent. At the close of the play a bouru 1 tiful supper was supplied. As the result of this effort considerably over ■ £6i will be added to the hospital funds. The contractors for the erection of the new hospital have made a commencement with the foundation work. It is expected that i he building will bo completed by February nest. The crayfish season is now in full swing, and local fishermen are securing large hauls from the jetty and also from the favourite fishing ground in the bay. The party telephone line giving cons munieation"to five settlers'at the' top of Ihaia road and to Mr Bartle's sawmill, Arawhata road, has been completed. This is the first party line in this district, but it is expected that in the near future many others will be m operation. ■Mrs Cramp, formerly licensee of the Central Hotel, Hawera, has purchased the lease of the Club Hotel from Mr P. J. Purcell. Suitable arrangements are being made by the local bodies for the entertainment of Lord and Lady Jellicoe on the occasion of their first visit here, which is fixed to ta£e place on the 27th inst. .
