MONTHLY MEETING

The regular monthly meeting of the Stratford Model Dairy Farm was held on Wednesday, 12th October. Present: Messrs J. 'W. Deem (chairman), J, B. Richards,. K. Tarrent, W. H. Were, JS. Marfeli, M. T, Phillips, and S. Pitt. i Manager's residence.—Mr Richards reportea that with the exception of a few small matters the work had lwea completed in a very satisfactory manner. The secretary reported that the building had been insured. Window blinds.—Mr Richards stated that the blinds Md been acquired and placed in position. Extra labour.—The chairman reported re two applicants who have made enquiries concerning the position.—' It was resolved that the matter of final selection of applicant to fill the position bo left in the hands of the chairman. I Acquisition of waggon. —This matter j was deferred for the time being. I Stock committee report. —Mr Pitt drew attention to the matter of acquiring a young pedigree bull. Tne matter was, fully discussed, and it was resolved that the stock committee be empowered to purchase a pedigree, yearling Jersey bull Agricultural Club (boys and girls, Stratford). —On the application of the Chief Instructor of Agriculture, Taranaki Education. Board, permission was granted the above club to crop an area of land. Seeds for trial purposes.—lt was resolved that olfer of the Central Co-op, store re 21bs of special mangold seed be accepted. /The manager's report for September 14th to October, was read, received and adopted, ana is as follows:— Pasture : Feed is coming away well on the new pasture; the grass in field 4 has ma.de exceptionally good growth for the pastmonth since the oats were cut. He drilling field 12 with oats for a hay crop, t would like you to consider the question of sowing, about two bushels of oats and one bushef of Italian rye, and about seven pounds of cowgrass to tho acre, as a temporary pasture for autumn and spring feeding. Mangolds will probably last another month; carrots are just about finished. Stock: Fifty-two cows are being milked. Quantity of milk for the monft 34,2801b5; test, first period 3.6, second period 3.8, th^ird period 4.0. .The highest milk supply this season is 16081bs. Pigs: Twenty store pigs were Bold for £45. Cultivation:: The paddockjj for the root crops for coming season are well in hand as regards working. One extya horse has been hired for three weeks to help through with the work at a cost of 30s per week. The window in the manure shed has been fixed up, which is a great improvement, although the water still comes through the wall. Mr Moore came down and inspected the Bhed one wet day. fie said that the only way would be to have it plastered to make it satisfactory. It was refolved that field 12 be sown with It bushels of oats and temporary pasture. Field 16 is to be sown with four acres soft turnips and six acres swedes.- Part field 15 to be sown with 1\ acres peas, two acres mangolds, and one acre carrots | : Mr. H. C. Johnson, Chief Instructor of Agriculture, Taranaki Education Board, was elected as a member of the society. Accounts amounting to £20 6s lid were passed for payment. ■
