TARANAKI CUP MEETING

The New Plymouth Coursing Club's iaranaki Cup meeting was brought to a successful conclusion on Saturday when, despite showery weather there was a good attendance. The weather remained-fine during the running of the heats, and as the hares were ingood fettle some splendid coursing was witnessed. Results:— Taranaki Cup first prize £50 and silver cup presented by Mr. J..,Hannon second £20, two dogs £10 each. Third round: Malster beat Hooligan by 2* points, Baby Bunting beat Salvador by 1 point, Drew's Hope beat Belle of Benalla by 2 points, Happy-go-lucky beat Pegotty by 1 point after a "nocourse.'> Semi-final: Malster beat Baby Bunting by 1 point, Drew's Hope beat Happy-go-lucky by 2* F 01?^- JW 5 Mr" D- D'Arcy's (Australia) blk b Drew's Hope beat Mr Fraser Smith's (Hamilton) r d Malster by 2i points. In the evening, prior to the commencement of the boxing tournament, the prizes were presented to the winning competitors by Mr. P E. Stainton (chairman of the committee), who 1 expressed his pleasure at welcoming the sportsmen from Australia and congratulated Mr. D'Arcy on his win. , Each winner received a hearty welcome ; from the audience, and each briefly replied, Mr. D'Arcy paying a tribute to the sportsmanlike qualities of the New Zealanders.
