They fall to the floor, continue pulsating and sucking in all kinds of dirt and filth until picked up and readjusted. It has been the common practice to endeavour to prevent this by propping up the cups with boxes, blocks, fins, etc.—a ricketty and unsatisfactory expedient at best.
