AUSTRALIA v. WEST SCOTLAND.

The West Scotland team is: Colonel Hoare, Barbour, Ferguson, /' Thain,, Stevenson, Mannes, George Gunn, John* Gunn,. Carr, Speed, Day. McDonald,, Macartney, Carter and Pellew are-. standing out of the Australian team. ! Armstrong won the toss and sent. Ba.rdsley and Collins in to bat. Theweather was fine but sultry, and the* wicket was good and faat. Ferguson, au left-handed, bowler, and Thain, a-right-handed medium bowler, opened the> bowling. Twenty-three were scored, in* four overs. Collins was caught high at. mid-on by Barbour, who is not related to the Australian Barbour.—One wicket for 54. Bardsley, at 23, sent a hard, return to Thain, which he missed. Speed, a right-hand medium to fasti bowler, came on vice Thain; Andrewswas run out. He ran down the pitch. after making a stroke, but Bardsley did. not move. —Two for 69. Bardsley hit* 50 in fifty minutes, and the conturywas reached in 54 minutes. After tea Bardsley was caught by Day,. off Thain, when he had compiled a use--ful 74. The scare was then three wickets for 131. Mayne/joined Tayjtor, when*. 23, putting one from Thain into then hands of George Gunn, who accepted. —Four for 138. Mayne continued ta* bat confidently, making ' strokes all. r^und the wicket, and with the, "assist--ance of Armstrong, raised the total front: 138 to 251, when he was bowled bySpeed. Ryder joined his captain, and. both batsmen proceeded to compile runs--rapidly, the former: being 62 and the* latter 22, not out.
