The death occurred on Sunday at»Vthe Auckland Hospital of Mr. Alfred George Watson, one of the oldest naval veterans in Auckland, at the advanced' ago of 81. Mr. Watson had had ant interesting career. As a young man:, he served <in the British navy underAdmiral Lord Fisher, then a lieutenant. He was a member of the crew of thefirst ironclad warship which Britainr. possessed, and also of the first turret^ ship launched in British waters. Hecame to New Zealand with the flyingsquadron sent here during the latterpart of the Maori Avar, and had resided.' mostly in" the. Auckland district forthepast 50 years.
A London cable message states that■; Mr. M. C. Anderson has graduated! B.Sc. in Birmingham, in mechanical* engineering, taking first-class honours; •and the Bowen scholarship for engineering research.
