HAWERA LIBRARY.
IMPORTANT MEETING OF
V SUBSCRIBERS
We wish to draw attention to a notice in our1 advertising columns calling a meeting of the Hawera\Public Lib-, rary,-and Institute for Wednesday, 13th inst., at 7-30 p.m., to consider handing over the library to the Borough Council. At this is a matter of importance, to the subscribers it is hoped that there will be a good attendance at the meeting. In the opinion of many people the time has come for the library here to be a municipal concern and part of the expense met by a library rate,, as is done in many other towns of this size. The committee is of opinion that owing- to the difficulty of filling vacancies on the committee and the need for more money to keep the library up to date it is advisable to hand it over to the Borough Council. The present building is not suitable and the needoor a better one should not be lost sight of. A good reference library would be most desirable, but at present the cost is beyond the resources ■at the disposal of the committee. Although the number of subscribers has largely .increased during the last twelve months, there are^not as many as might be expected from a town of this size l, and if each member endeavoured to get one other person to join ifc would greatly help in giving a better service for all.
