MR. GRIFFITHS' SALE

Mr. E. Griffiths' Pale of nedieree Jersey stock at CambrMsce on ■"Wednesday last constitutes probably a record

for any sale of any breed in New Zealand. Sixty-seven females, cows, heifers, and calves, made the great average of 140 guineas, whilst'eight bulls, including yearlings, averaged 130 guineas. A very gratifying fact was that that . great old cow Lady Peggy and the great imported bull Viola's Golden Laddie come to Taranaki. There t were buyers from all over New Zealand and even from Australia, and competition was keen. Taranaki breeders who were there gave.the highest praise to Mr Griffiths for the complete arrangements at the sale and for the splendid condition of the stock. In regard to Viola's I Golden Laddie they remarked that he is a wonderfully prepotent bull and sp actively are his characteristics impressed upon his progeny that even a novice could not fail to notice it. He was; purchased by Mr. Bell, of Oakura, for 300 guineas and Mr. Bell thereby secured a great bargain. Lady Peggy (K.C.B. imp. —Magnet's Peggy) is a I C.O.R. gold medal winner, who made ' the wonderful total of 38611b of butter J in six consecutive seasons —an average of well over 6001b for ea«h season. She was secured for 230 guineas by Mr. V. Nowell, of Hawera, and was another of the bargains "of the sale. The highest price at the sale was 410 guineas, given by Mr. Cobbe, of Feilding, for a heifer, Viola's Golden Fern (Viola's Golden Laddie—Golden Fern's Ward, Fern's Oxford Noble). Mr. Brock (Elfcham) purchased the four-year-old cow Lady Morecroft, of Belvedere Bilberry's Last, dam Lady Winnie (Lady Peggy— Bush boy) for 205 guineas. This cow .has K.C.B. blood on both sides. Mr. Western (Hawera) paid 150 guineas for' Lady Bilberry, four years. She is by Belvedere Bilberry's Last out of Lady Peggy and has K.C.B. blood on both sides. Mr. Astbury (Mangatoki) secured the two-year-old heifer Winnie's Viola.'for 60 guineas. She is an exceptionally well bred animal, being by Viola's Golden Laddie' out of Lady Winnie (Lady Peggy—Bushboy). The! cow Viola's Golden Mercedes made 375 guineas; the heifer Mercedes Lady Viola (Viola's Golden Laddie—Mercede/ Lady) made 200 guineas and Viola's Quen. Bess (Viola's Golden Laddie-^ Noble Queen Be :^ made 250 guineas and went to Mr. Cobbe, of Feilding.' A complete „ list was not available when the above notes were written.
