Ellis Cecil Bowles, "a railway cadet, was knocked down in a street at Tuakau on Saturday night by a man who suddenly sprang upon him and-adminis-tered two kicks, which rendered Bowles unconscious. On "recovery he found himself, in some scrub, where he had evidently been dragged by his assailant. Bowles had been struck heavily on. the neck, but was not very severely imjured. The police traced the footprints for two miles, but lost track of the supposed assailant. It is presumed that the motive of the assault was to obtain the keys of the railway station.
