Six railway companies, including the North-Western, Great Western and Metropolitan, are converting their locoxnotives into oil fuel •burners instead of «oal. This can be done in four days. A ton of crude petroleum will do the ■work of two tons of coal. Tire cost of •conversion will ibe £300 per locomotive.
The transporters' executive passed a resolution that it will continue to for^ Irid the importation of foreign coal, and that npt to do so is equivalent to allowing the Government to bring in 4>lack-leg labour to 'break the strike.
