LONDON, May 9. *Some miners signed on as stewards and cooks at the old rates for the purpose of sailing on the scheduled dates. The union's manifesto instructs memibers to refuse to sign on at any terms after to-morrow. The dispute must be settled nationally, not piecemeal. The Hon. Mr' Bridge-man stated that ■tho forty-six collieries flooded employed 14,656 men.
