LITTLE DAMAGE DONE

(BY TELEGRAPH —P"'-" •c-.-r,,,, . .n.Viv WAIEI, May 9. An outbreak of fire y;a s discovered at twelve o'clock last Dight at No. 2 level in the Waihi 'mine. The horses were removed to a point of safety, and by, daylight the fire v.as extinguished. The fire originated in a crib cuddy. Evidently the last shift knocking off on Saturday at noon left a candle lighted in the -cuddy, which ignited the timber. The- fire .smouldered for twentyfour hours, when it broke into flames. The damage is no- serious. Owing to the fumes, underground work, with the exception of one has been suspended. Operations are likely to be resumed to-mororw.
