The competitors, in the men's club are encouraging a very desirable spirit of keen enthusiasm. ■ Generally speaking, too. the play is improving, all members getting in all the play they can. Prospects are improving all the time. Outside matches will be encouraged during the season, and everybody will feel more satisfied in asking any club, with the best 18-hple course on to the course, as it is developing and improving all the time. Readers of the Referee who do not play golf may expect to get a shock at reading the headlines of the Golf World when they read the following: "Great Fight in Auckland Championship,' > and,just below a sub-heading, "Player Drops Dead on Green.'' It heed hardly be said that the latter remark does not refer to our Auckland friends. The. final was between Lusk and George, and was remarkably close, being -described by. Moss (the Auckland professional) as the most exciting he had ever seen. He thinks it. must surely be a record for two me.n on the scratch or, better mark that one of them should win, six consecutive holes in the final. George was actually dormie five, and yet Lusk won. The six holes he did in 4. 3, 4, 5, 4, and 4 (the nineteenth). '

The Manukoriki Golf Club at Waitara has been re-formect, with Mr. S. (I. Fraser as president and Mr. A. E. Jaeo as secretary. The Invercargill Town Council has decided to increase the scale of fees for playing on the muncipal golf links, and also to advertise for a coach. In moving the adoption of the clause, Councillor A. H. Mackrell said that the 1-nks were just on the eve of paying their way. They had been taken in hand by the Reserves Committee only during the past two years, and since had made rapid strides.^ The links were certainly increasing in popularity.
