The first advances came during the Peace Conference, and have 'been le- , peated since then, but the Treasury ■ Department disapproved*, every time. France sounded theUufc^a States concerning the cancellation of the French oebt to the United States, but because v? erican attitude was unfavourable France never definitely proposed cancellation.
