General Eooth has concluded his Dunedin visit, where he has conducted a remarkable campaign. He left for Wellington to-day, where he will preside over the annual congress.

Lord* Forster; formerly a. member of the House of Commons for Sevenoaks, has been appointed Governof-Genfcrali of Australia.

Dr T. Julian, junr., F.R.C.S., M.C., Ch.B., has been appointed resident surgeon at the Wairau Hospital (says a telegram from Blenheim). There were four applicants. Dr Julian had three and a half years' war service, and for twelve months he was house surgeon at the Dunedin Hospital.

Mrs J. Lindsay Weir met with a very painful accident at the Eltham golf links on Saturday (the Argus reports). A juvenile player was swinging a club, and by accident struck Mrs; Weir full in 'the face, breaking the bridge of her nose. She was attended to at Dr. Cooper's private and is making a good recovery.

Mr Leonard Griffiths, who has held the position of creamery manager at Waipuku for some time, succumbed to pneumonia (following influenza) at the Stratford Hospital on Sunday (the Post reports). 'Deceased is survived by a wife and two children, and Mrs Griffiths is also a patient at the hospital at the present time, having contracted pneumonia.

At the annual meeting of the Taranaki Chamber of . Commerce, reference was made by the retiring president and Mr F. S. Johns to the impending departure of Mr W. J. Perm.on a visit to Canada, both paji-qg him a warm tribute for the work he had done o* behalf of the Chamber in various capacities, and wishing him bon voyage and a safe return. A pleasant little ceremony took place at the residence of Mr and Mrs D. J. Williams, Meremere, on the evening of June 10, a number of friends and neighbors gathering to wish them a safe and pleasant trip to the Old Country. Advantage was taken of the occasion to present to Mr Williams a travelling rug and pocket book, and to Mrs Williams a handbag, as tokens of goodwill and respect. Mr Reid, in making the presentation, referred to the good qualities and work of both Mr and Mrs .Williams. Several other gentlemen spoke to the same effect. Both Mr and Mrs Williams suitably responded, and the evening concluded with "For they are jolly good fellows" and "Auld Lang Syne."
