MARCH GARDEN COMPETITIONS
{To the Editor.) Sir,—l am very glad to read that laree-eighths-of-an-acre Competitor" is going to do his best. Ido not see, however, that anyone who does his best shorf.dj esteem his chances of winning a prize small. The prizes have been- allotted with especial care, so tiiat the -smallest cottager may have equal chance with the mansion-dweller who employs constant labor in his garden. In addition to the championship cups, which should take some winning special prizes are to be awarded for(a) the neatest garden (this should suit our friend); (b) the best show of flowers ; (c) the best vegetable garden • and these prizes in each class of the competition. Permit me to say how cheering it is to read such a letter as "Com- ! petitor's." We hope that we shall have many such in these competitions and that they will help notably in the beautifying of our town and district — I am, etc., F. C. SPRATT, Honorary secretary, Hawera TownPlanning Association. Hawera, Feb. 12.
