AUCKLAND OBJECTS TO DR. THACKER'S REMARKS.
AUCKLAND, Aug. 27. Ihe remarks of Dr Thacker MP concerning the Auckland Rugby Union when welcoming the Australian League team at Christchurch on Tuesday, were taken strong exception to by the management committee of the Auckland Union to-night. The following resolution wa s carried: "That this union resents any suggestion that may be contained in the Press Association report of Dr. Thacker's remarks in regard to> this union playing League rules, or that there is any intention of doing so. On. the contrary, this union reiterates its. contention that the Auckland modifications played during the oast three years are simply in the direction of improved Rugby Union football, inasmuch as that with the exception of the rule relating to ''kicking into touch," they are merely directions to referees to interpret the existing rules in a particular way.
