MANAIA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

' A meeting of Church of England people was held on Monday night, in the supper room of the Town Hall. There was a good attendance. It was' called to consider the question of a (memorial to the soldiers and the erection of a parish room. It was decided to have a new oak lectern and a marble -slab in memory of the fallen, and a roll of honor (gold lettering on an oak panel) in memory of the men who had fought and returned. Mr Jas. Taylor was appointed treasurer, and all wishing to subscribe are asked to let him have their donations unsolicited. It was felt that for such a jeourse a canvass should be unnecessary. It was also decided to erect a parish room when funds and prices permitted. The discussion wa« followed by mueieaf items by Misses Collier, Mitchell and Taylor, and Mrs Walker and the> Hev>. W. Tye. After supper, dancing was kept up till 12. Altogether a very enjoyable evening was spent.

Deep regret was felt by the citizens of Manaia and district when the sad news of the death of Mrs Percy Dcs Forges, wife of Mr Percy, Dcs Forges, of Manaia, who died atT the Hawera Hospital on Sunday night. A husband and three little children are left to mourn, to whom the r>eople of Manaia and district extend their deepest sympathy. The funeral took place yesterday, and was largely attended by sympathisers and friends of deceased and family.
