ALLEGATIONS CONCERNING CAMP TREATMENT.

This finally subsided after denials and counter assertions. Ansell, formerly Acting-Judge Advocate-General, in evidence before the Senate Committee inquiring into punishments in the American Army., said that these were savagely harsh. Mr Baker refused to allow him to make a clemency recommendation. In several of the camps of the United States the •conditions were shocking.
