i& Another of the pioneer settlers of New Zealand passed to her rest on '-■ Wednesday in the person of Mrs Death, Avnfe of Mr Samuel Death, of tho Fraser road, at the age of 78 years. Mr and Mrs Death had lived on the Fraser road for nineteen years, being amongst the earliest to settle there. Mrs Death ■waa bom in 1841, on the good ship Thomas Sparks, just before reaching the Wellington Heads, her parents, Mr and Mrs Wm. Riddler, settling at Petone, where they were well known residents for many years. It ds worthy of special mention, that the ship took ax months to reach New Zealand, two months being spent at the Cape, where eh«j puts in for repairs. It appears she struck a rock when, nearing South Africa, and but for a piece of rock breaking off and remadmn in the hole she would probably ha.\£ foundered. Mrs Death was married in 1863, and the worthy couple were therefore within four yeavs of their diamond wedding. After living forty years in the Hutt valley, where their family were all born and brought up, they came to Taranaki. Mr and Mrs Death both passed through the vicissitudes of the early settler's life, Mr Death having served in the Militia in the troubles with the Maoris Many was the tale they could tell of their early experiences. She leaves a husband and family of nine £ight sons—Messrs Arthur (Levin^ George (Thames Valley), Henry Frank Thomas, Norman and Sidney' (all of Eraser road), and one daughter- Mr* T, Hudson (Palmerston North). ' She was very hiehly respected, and will be affectionately remembered by a large circle of friends. Her husband, ant! J-antik will have deep sympathy in 4|peir sorrow. If you have a cold m the herd use the Nazol Inhaler. A few snffts and you notice a marked relief. Keen it up and the cold soon vanishes.—Advt.
