YOUTHFUL HOUSEBREAKERS
CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 27. Eight lads ranging from 13 to 15 _ years, were brought before Mr McCarthy, S.M., charged with breaking and entering and theft. There wfere 35 «harges against them altogether, including 24 against one boy, 18 against .^another,, and 17 tgadnst a third. The Magistrate said that most of the boys had been before the Court previously and had failed to keep promises of refcrm. Some of the cases were attributed to conditions of home life. All the oleaded guilty. Seven were «o^nmiti?<i to training. farms and the others were admitted to probation for two years and ordered to receive ten
strokes with the birch. Orders were made for the payment of the damage done.
