Celebrations to mark the centenary of the death of James Watt, the Scottish engineer, have resulted in the establishment of a school of engineering research at Birmingham University. The scheme will cost £200,000, and will aim at restoring Britain to the premier position in discovering^labor-saving ma<*jnery. *
