(By "Maecenas.") The Karamu eastoff Kaminobe (Hymettus—Dryad) was sold a couple of days ago for £6. When at his best this gelding was decidedly useful. A noticeable absentee from the New Zealand Cup nominations is Client. Two seasons ago Elevation's son was looked on as unbeatable in the event, and again last year a number of keen bettors supported the Fordell-trained gelding, but on each occasion he ran like a commoner.

Henry Clay, formerly , owned and trained in Hawera. was sent to Australia, with Rewi Poto. Just what Johnston intends doing with Henry Clay is hard to .forecast, as the son of eSignor will be hard to place across the Taxman.

The^ name of Want figures in the nominations for th^ Dannevirke and Marton Steeplechases. The Penury gelding il a clever jumper over the small fences, and should have little diffieulW in negofcintincr "big country." The doubly win of Sir Solo at the Grand National meeting, brought the total winnings of the Sir Laddo gelding to £6070. This record is remarkable when one considers that Sir Solo won no classical races, but earned the whole of the amount in handicaps, and it is quite possible that the old fellow will add another few hundred to the amount before being retired from the racmg trade. The Auckland Racing Club are a very live body and deserve great praise for the manner in wbich they eater for horseowners, and the coming season will find a further increase of stake money; indeed it appeal's only a matter of a short while and they'will leave th«'ir old rivals (Canterbury Jockey Chib^ far behind. A comparison of the stakes offering by the two leading clubs is worthy of perusal.
