A CHARGE OF FRAUD
(BY TELEGEAPH—PBESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, Aug. 25. Two charges, of having obtained £» ani £3 from Terence Curno by false pretences were laid against Herbert Lipsham before Mr J. E. Wilson, S.M., at the Police Court. The false pretences on which defendant obtained^ mon?y £> invest for Curno were that accused had telegraphic communication / t 1 i from a well"known jockey, I Jack O Shea, respecting the winning chances of certain racehorses due to compete at the Metropolitan trots and the Canterbury Jockey Club's race meeting at Riccarton. Police evidence went to show that O'Shea did not par- ' ticapate at either meeting. Accused was sentenced to threft months' imprisonment on each charge. the sentences to be concurrent. Li _ sham wl« further charged with being a military _eser.er. He was ordered to be handed over to the military * authorities at the expiration of his term. - ot imprisonment.
