NEW ZEALAND DEFEATED.
WELLINGTON, Aug. 23. The League match. Australia v. New Zealand, was played to-day on the Basin Reserve. The game, which was fast and open, resulted in a victory for th c Australians by 44 to 21. Both sides made many fine passing rushes, and the tackling was good; also the game was by no means one-sided, the home team making many fruitless attacks.
