SETTLEMENT EXPECTED AT THE WEEK END.
THE MEN'S LOSS IN WAGES
BY CABLE—PEESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT SYDNEY. Aug. 22. Th e Trades Hall authorities are optimistic regarding the strike situation. It is believed that negotiations at Melbourne will result in a settlement. The organisations affected are instructing the members to hold themselves in readiness to start work on Monday. A meeting of seamen prepared proposals to submit to Mr Millen/ It is expected a settlement will be reached at the week-end.
MELBOURNE, Aug. 22. It is unofficially stated that two seamen have been despatched to Fremantle to place the men's case before Mr Hughes, who arrives on Saturday. The seamen's loss of wages now amounts to £3,362.000.
