PEACE BALL

The Peace Ball was in every way a gieat success. The fancy dresses were hoth numerous' and pretty, and the judg« who awarded the- prizes had a hatd. task Finally they were awarded as follows: Best fancy, Mrs Priest (Belgian jockey); Miss foreman was specially mentioned. Comic Mrs Martin, as Topsy. The latter was again the fun of the evening, carrying out her character perfectly. The supper was all that could be desired, and special thanks is due to Messrs Thomas,' Oliver and Thomas, who were good enough to provide the whole of the supper entirely free of charge. The floor was in capital order, and danciug was indulged in lii'til the early hours of the morning. The music was supplied by Mrs McOarty's -orchestra, and was much appreciated.

A NASTY ACCIDENT

A nasty accident happened to-day near Ka.ponsa, which might have resulted fatally. A car driven by a. gentleman from Awatuna while* returning home, oolliided with a stray horse. The gentleman's wife was thrown out and stunned besides being much shaken. The car is considerably damaged, and was towed into Kapnnga for repairs. I understand the abovo matier has been placed in the hands of the local police. Straying horses havo been the cause of many accidents.
