NEW ZEALAND'S CRUISER

AUCKLAND, Aug. 5

The name of the warship to be presented to New Zealand by the Admiralty was announced by the Prime Minister in replying to an informal welcome by members of Parliament and supporters. It is a light cruiser, the Canterbury, an up-to-date and speedy vessel, finished and commissioned during the war. According to arrangements previously announced, the Canterbury will not be despatched to the Dominion immediately. She is entirely oil fed, and until supplies of oil are assured the Admiralty will lend to the Government a coal-burning cruiser of the Bristol type, which is not quite so fast as the one ultimately to be received. The exchange will be made when convenient to the Government.
