MEETING OF HAWERA BRANCH

A meeting of the Hawera branch of the^Naw Zealand Farmers' Union was held in the Borough. Council Chambers on Saturday afternoon, Mr P. Mills being in the chair, and there was a good attendance of members.

A letter was received from the district repatriation officer in regard to their scheme of employment for returned soltiiers desiring to learn farming, and those present decided to communicate with their neighbors and to inform the secretary of any farmers who would be billing to take soldiers on the terms mentioned.

The president and Mr Buckeridge (delegates to the Provincial Conference) reported upon the work done at the recent conference.

The following new members were elected: Messrs A. Schneivoli, Dan J. Wills, Philip Bremer, Boy ton Walker, James Walker, Jas. Stewart, .Ben Bloor Bert Smith, J. M. Laurent and W C' Kelland.

The scheme of organisation proposed by the secretary at last meeting was then considered, and it was decided to appoint the following to canvass for members in their respective districts: Messrs C. A. Clarke, Jas. Finlay, G. Goult. Major C. Henty, F. J. Gane, Jas. Barkla, Jas, Grant, C. Malcolm, A. L. Catchpole, F. Gaw'ith, A. Oliver and W. C. KeMand, who are to report at the next meeting. The president suggested that in order to make the meetings interesting and instructive, members should take up subjects of interest to farmers for discussion at each, meeting, and to giva the scheme a start, offered to. take up for the next meeting the subject of "Milk Fever and its Treatment." The idea readily caught on with the members, and it was unanimously decided to accept the president's offer and also to ask the Government vet. and stock inspector to be present at the meeting'if possible.
