ANNUAL MEETING OF ASSOCIATION.

The annual meeting of the N.Z. -Jersey Cattle Breeders' Association was Jbeld at New Plymouth, yesterday, and was attended by over 80 members. Mr G. Dermer, the president, in moving the adoption of the report, said there were now over 9100 pedigrees of females and 6850 males on the books of the Association. The transfers showed an increase of 664 over i>he figures of the preceding year. Regard- , ing finance, the Association had £2350 bearing interest, and £400 invested in war loans. He expressed keen disappointment at the small number of memibers testing cows. Apparently only 15 per cent, conidered testing of any value, while the percentage of testing members was lower than three years ago. To satisfactorily dispose of surplus stock, testing was necessary. The following remits were adopted: That a gold medal be given to the breeder or importer of every Jersey bull having five or more daughters out of different dams with semi-official records of at least 100 per cent, over the standard, the breeder to qualify to by a member of the Association; (2) that the recommendation to the Council that no remit having been adopted by the annual meeting b$ vetoed by the Cbun•cil without reasonable excuse being given to different branches. A remit that the Council take action against breeding and selling, grade, bulls by members of the Association was withdrawn on the groui.d that it was illegal. The Council is to consider a proposal to offer a prize for the N.Z. champion Jersey cow and bull. It was decided to award a gold medal to any cow op heifer doing 250 lbs of j butter-fat over ths required amount. ! A paper was read by Mr Griffiths on idle marketing and identification of ani- . mals, and advocating tottooing as the best scheme. It was resolved that this meeting of Jersey breeders place on record its emphatic protest against the action of ~the Government in limiting tho price paid to the producer for butter for local consumption to a price estimated at '2*d per lb less than the cost of manufacture, and request that an equalisation fund be taken out of the consolidated revenue.
