NORMANBY RATING

(To the Editor.) AT Sir>~P n Friday the ratepayers of Normanbv will be asked to decide tf they will still retazn rating on the unimproved or revert to the capital 7 lu + c- When the movement first started the object stated was more revenue wanted in order to carry out necessary works. Now, Sir, since the meeting a new valuation of the township has been made, and reliable information shows that the land values have been doubled. If such is the case the necessary revenue can be obtained without the retrograde step proposed. The question for the small owner to decide is: Is he prepared to pay rates on improvements he has or may put on hls quarter-acre section, and let the larger owners or holders of town sections with no buildings on them reap the benefit both in increasing the value of their lands and reducing their rates? If the ratepayer is prepared to do this he must vote capital, but surely common sense will prevail, and his vote cast for the unimproved value and the future prosperity of Normanby.—l am, etc.,
