SUNDAY TRAMS.

NOT TO BE REINSTATED AT PRESENT.

•V RLBGRAPB —PRBBS ASSOCIATION,

WELLINGTON, March. 4 Replying to Mr W. H. Field, M.P., re the suburban train service, Mr Herries points out that practically no fit men have yet returned from the war to their occupations with, the Department, and very taw. were discharged from camp With the limited staff it becomes increasingly difficult to carry on business on week days, and therefore he cannot reasonably ask the staff to work on Sunday trains. To inaugurate any conoewron in the shape of week-end tickets would, by concentrating traffic, increase toe difficulties of the Department, and might prejudicially affect the handling ot shipping and other important perishable goods traffic. Further, the granting of week-end ticketa would, inevitably bring about a reinstatement of other concession fares, which are at present inoperative. The Minister regrets that tfi« request cannot be complied with at me present time.
