A NOTED CAVAIjRY OFFICER. ■ General Sir E. r H. H. Allenby sue- ! oeeded General Sir Archibald Murray in ! June, 1917, shortly after the double [failure of General Murray to capture Gaza. Previously he Ihad commanded the Third Army in France. In the years immediately, before the wax he was Inspector of Cavalry, and as such was responsible for the shaping of the regiments which fought at Le Gateau and several times saved the infantry of Field-Marshal French's force from envelopment by the Germans during the enemy's invading movement in France in 1914.
