(From Our Own Correspondent.)

SPRING SHOW

The annual spring show held by theOpunake Horticultural Society took , .place on Wednesday. Unfortunately the weather ,was cold and boisterous, I and consequently the attendance was smaller than, usual. Competition was not as keen as it might have been: in fact, if the splendid exhibits of Mr (xibson, of Biverlea, and Messrs Duncan and Davies, New Plymouth, had 'been removed, the remaining exhibits would have made a very poor display. In the evening a short musical^ programme was given, and .highly appreciated. The most successful competitors m the various classes were: Pot plants, Mrs W. C. Dudley and Mrs Guy; cut flowers,. Mre A. H. Moore. Mrs Mourie, Mrs J. Pettigrew, and Muar Pelham; narcissi, Mr Cook and Mrs Mourie; decorative, Mrs G. W Rogers; cooking, Miss West, Mrs Guy" Miss Moore, and Miss Mildenhall; pre- . serves, Mrs Palmer. A number of competitions for school children were well contested. The supper room was. under the management of Mesdames Markham arid Looney, the takings amounting to the creditable: sum of * £4. 7s. The net proceeds are to be- ' given to patriotic objects.
