PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.

A meeting of the executive committee _of the Waimate Plains Patriotiio Society was held on Wednesday evening. Present: Messrs A. G. Bennett (chairman), R. Dunn C. A. Clarke, J. A. Hanfeen, T. MePhillips, Le Fleming, E. Bourke; J. Taylor, J. Meldon, P. Hammonds, J. Stevenson J. S. McKay, T., A. Bridge, and W. Taylor. The chairman thanked the district delegates for attending the meeting, and trusted that they would attend on future occasion©.

Correspondence was received 'from the New Plymouth Borough Council re war trophiiea, stating that they were not returned in good order, also regarding freight on same.—lt was resolved that Messrs Hobday, J. Taylor and A. J. Hanson be a committee to reply to New Plymouth Borough Council re war trophies.

From the Association re Regimental Fund, stating that our assessed quota of £16 was due, and asking for payment.—lt was resolved that the £16 be forwarded to the Association.

Result of Appeal.—The chairman stated that the net profit in connection with the recent appeal was £2887 s©. It was resolved that the amount to be forwarded to the Copper Trail be made up to £200, provided the money sent i was in the name of the Waimate Plains Special Appeal Committee,, consisting of the Manaia, Kapuni, Ofcakeho, Auroa, and Inaha districts, and that the secretary write, and inform the district committee that the amount has been paid on behalf of the whole district in order that they might notify the Wellington Red Cross Society that their quota was included; in the £200 1 being sent from this district. It was resolved that £250 be placed with the Manaia Loan Co. at call at 4i per cent and £250 at call with the Manaia Building and Investment Co. at call at 4£ per cent; also that 50 per cent, net balance of appeal be forwarded to the Taranaki War Relief Association, and 25 per cent, divided between the V.M.C.A., Salvation Army, Church Army, Roman Catholic Field Fund, Methodist and Presbyterian Institute, and Red Cross. It was pointed out that some lists were in bad order, but it was decided to publish the lists, on the motion of Messrs Dunn and McPhillips. The chairman said that he was extremely sorry to have to state that both Trevor Lloyd and W. Bridge were missing at the front and believed to be

prisoners of war. He said he felt sure he was voicing the opinion of the whole - committee- in stating that they were all deeply grieved, and they all hoped that their parents would receive news in the near future, and moved that, a letter of condolence be sent to the parents.—Seconded by Mr T. McPhil- j lips and carried. PERSONAL. Private C. Nielson, who has been away from Manaia on active service in France, returned on "Tuesday night after an absence of two years. He is invalided home, having received a very eevere wound through the knee. and. thigh. Private W. E. Leat also returned after serving two years in France. He also is invalided home with a verysevere wound in the leg and foot. Private Leat has been wounded three times. The citizens of Manaia and district wish both privates a speedy recovery. Mr and Mrs Cunningham, of Manaia, received word that their son, W. D. Cunningham, will be expected back from the front in about ten days. MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
