TROUBLE AT SHIPYARDS.
AN AUTHOBITATIVE STATEMENT. MEN'S DEMANDS DISAVOWED BY EXECUTIVE. PBOMPT GOVEBNMENT ACTION NECESSABY. (Received Sep. 27. 8.40 a.mO 4 LONDON, Sep. 26. A statement from a reliable source regarding the strike of Clyde shipwrights and other shipyard trades, which 6pread to Barrow and the eaet coast of Scotland, points out that the action of the men, who demand a minimum wage of £5 weekly, is disavowed oy their executives, and, moreover, is a repudiation of the undertaking by the shipyards' trades unions that there would be. no stoppages of work contamed in the scheme to secure their utmost protection and framed by them and their employers last April. As ship production is a most vital necessity the Government must act promptly, and the law provides three methods, as follows: Enlistment in the army of shirkers of military ageprosecution of the ringleaders under the Defence of the Bealm Act; and lining the strikers by a munitions tribunal.
The decision of the Government will Probably be announced shortly.—Aue.N.Z. C.A. and Beuter.
