GERMAN EMISSARY SENTENCED. PENAL SERVITUDE FOR LIFE. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. (Received Aug 5, 1 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 4. The courtmartial sentenced Dowling, who recently landed on the Irish coast from a German submarine, to "death, but this 'was commuted to penal servitude for life. The sentence was read to Dowling on the parade ground at the Tower of London in the presence of troops.—-Australian-New Zealand Cable Association.
