(Received Aug. 3, 10.40 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Aug. 2 Japan has accepted the. American terms for intervention in Siberia. Ihe primary object is assistance of the Czseoho-Slovaks and military, forces will be despatched immediately. The Americans advanced almost unresisted against the side of the Marne salient, and a partial German withdrawal has become apparent. _ It is understood the War Department's object is to secure five million men for the American army by April, 1919, of whom three million will be tor France. There are now upwards of thirteen hundred thousand Americans in .France or en route, and the present monthly movement of troops to Franceis about three hundred thousand. Mr Kitchin, chairman of the Finance Committee, estimates that a billion dollars can be raised by war taxes from luxuries, principally motor cars-, cigars, theatre tickets", and jewellery.—Aus.N.Z.
