MOTOR ACCIDENT.
A VERDICT FOR DAMAGES
(BY TELEGRAPH —PPKSS ASSOCIATION.) TIMARU, Aug. 2.
Mr Justice Herdman and a jury of twelve were occupied for two full days in a snit for personal injuries sustained by Mary Randall, ton. room waitress, Christcliurch, aged 30. She was on holiday in September, 191G, and was a passenger for a round trip in the Timaru Herald mail car in the district. The car got out of control in descending a steep hill and ran away, was turned into a bank and the axle broke, the car being upset, and Miss Randall sustained a fracture of the pelvis, and is still suffering from the effects. She sued the Herald Company for £1000 general and £138 special damages. Plaintiff asserted that the car was ill-found and the driver negligent, which defendant denied.
The jury found that the car was not properly equipped and the brake gear defective, and gave a verdict for £G3B, with costs as per scale.
