MILITARY SERVICE BOARD.

FURTHER APPEALS HEARD

The Military Service Board heard the following additional appeals today :

Edward Greig Callaghan, farmer, Whangamomona, appealed on the ground of public interest. Appellant' deposed that he was working anO.R.P. farm. It would not run a manager, and he did not think his neighbors could look after the place, as they had their hands more than fully occupied. Decision was reserved. j The appeal of Henry Thrush, farmer, ' Mangatoki (Mr Gow), previously before the Board, was reheard. It'was a leasehold place, belonging to a soldier, j and appellant was milking 50 cows. ,' There was no power in the lease to sub-lease the place. Decision was reserved. The appeal of Arthur Norman Aldridge, farmer, Waitomo, was dismissed, there being no appearance of the appellant. The adjourned appeal of Reginald .Hamerton, farm manager, Kakaramea, was reviewed. Mr Powell appeared for the appellant, who said that Mr Blake, his employer, had been unable to secure ! another manager. Appellant desired j leave until the November or December | draft to enable him to get over the shearing season. Leave was granted until the November draft. Upon resuming after the luncheon adjournment the Board gave its reserved decisions in the following cases: E. G. Callaghan, Whangamomona, leave until the September draft; H. Thrush, Mangatoki, leave until the October draft; E. Gopperth, Kaimiro, adjourned sine die. The adjourned appeal of Hugh. Crichton Stuart Hughes, farm manager Taumatatahi (Mr ODea) was further reviewed. The reservist stated that his employer had secured another manager, but he desired extension of time to enable him to get his successor into the running of the place. He j thought the October draft would suit. Leave granted accordingly. The adjourned appeal of Thomas Reginald Surrey, farmer and stock buyer (Mr Powell) was further considered. Appellant said there was no change in his circumstances. He understood the New Zealand Refrigerating I Co., for whom he was stock buyer, was appealing for him. The N.Z. Refrigerating Co., Wanganui, also appealed for the reservist. The manager (Mr H. Ziesler) stated that itwould b e difficult to replace Mr Surrey unless the company drew upon other freezing companies. He admitted that there must be numerous stock buyers in the district, but the reservist was a ! very capable buyer. The Board considered the reservist should go into camp, and granted leave until the November draft. This concluded th« sittings.
