PROSPECTS OF GENERAL ELECTION.
PRESS OPINION DIVIDED
(Received Aug. 2, 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 1. The Daily Chronicle says that feeling is growing that a general election before the end of the year is not desirable, seeing that an overwhelming majority of the people favor the war.— Reuter.
The Times declares that opposition to an ejection comes from the extremes pacifists and hard-shelled reactionaries, and "we tell both plainly that an early election is as inevitable as the rising of the sun."—Times.
