FURTHER AMERICAN GAINS

Sir Douglas Haig reports: We successfully raided enemy positions in the neighborhood of Lens. Hostile artillery was active at Villers Bretonneaux, Bucquoy, Merris and Meteren.
An American official report states: The enemy who penetrated to the region of Scringes and JNesles were killed, wounded or captured. Southward of ikus Meunier, after severe bayonet fighting, we drove the enemy out of the wood. We captured Grimpettes wood and reached Cierges village.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. and Reuter.
