ARARATA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
CHRISTMAS PARCELS FUJND. On Friday last, July 26, a most successful gathering was held in the Public Hall, in aid of the Ararata fund for sendino- a Christmas parcel to each of the boys from Ararata who are on active service. This object appeals to all of us. and it is well that we, who are living in peaceful Taranaki, and in the full enjoyment of more than sufficient good things, should think of I those who are giving so much, and ! bearing such hardships, for us and our ! country. The ladies of Ararata are ! making arrangements for sending each I ! boy from this settlement a substantial j I reminder of our good wishes for their \ | welfare at Christmas time. I A good amount was raised, and in j ' order to augment this a further social j I evening will be held on Friday next, j i August 2. at which the presence of all j friends will be welcome. i PERSONAL. j * Recently at a social evening, ad- j vantage was taken to present Mr and , Mrs Thrush, who have left Araratai, with a token of the esteem _in which j they were held by their friends and I neighbors. This took the form of a j handsome clock for Mr and Mrs Thrush, and a serviette ring for Master Thrush. j WAR- ANNIVERSARY. j ' On Sunday, August 4, being the 1 fourth anniversary of the declaration of ! war, the Rev. C. H. Grant Cowen will ' hold a special service in the Public ' Hall, at 2 p.m.
