(Advt.) August 1, 1918. CTo the Editor.) Dear Sir, —I read with considerable interest "Sanitas' '' letter of the 26th. iast. It may be of interest for your many readers to know that there was a committee of Hawera county ratepayers set up to inquire into the possibilities covered by "Sanitas' " letter. The committee, of which I was a member, interviewed both the Haw-era Borough Council and the Hawera County Council. Both Councils jvei'e of the opinion that it was the other's duty to move in the matter. One has the water, 'the other the jurisdiction. Between all parties nothing was done.. It has long been my ambition to see a greater Hawera, at a cost to the ratepayers of no higher rates than at present. Within one-mile radius of the Post Office there are about 500 houses without the facilities of borough water, drainage, and other necessary requirements. It would be interesting to know now many houses there are in a two-mile radius. The borough proper is fast filling np, and the suburbs are growing, and it is Our duty to see at our earliest that we are protected from future epidemics by providing the first essentials for health, plenty of cheap water. Drainage and other tilings will follow. The aforesaid committee, owing to removals, has been abandoned, but served its purpose by showing the Councils that something should be done. If elected at the forthcoming election, I will do my utmost to further the interest .and welfare of our town. Hawera has a future; let it be a progressive one. —Yours faitbfully, H. W. LEWIS.
