OHANGAI.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

On Tuesday evening a surprise party was held at the residence of Mr Cochrane, to wish him and Mrs Cochrane good-bye. Mr Cochrane has been manager of the Meremere dairy factory for five years, and has now left to take up the management of the Oaonui factory. He has always taken an active interest in school matters, and during the last few months, as chairman of the school committee, has done much to improve the school grounds. Towards the close of the evening Mr Thomlinson, on behalf of the well-wishers, presented Mr Cochrane with a purse of sovereigns. Speeches were made by Mr Sheahan and Mr O'Shea, to which Mr Cochrane suitably responded. The party broke up with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne."

At the. Red Cross dance Mrs Cochrane was presented with a handsome silver entree dish and serviette ring as a mark of esteem and appreciation of her kindness and willingness in always supplying the music at all social functions.

Mr and Mrs Cochrane will be much missed in the social life of Ohangai.
