N.Z. FARMERS' UNION.
CONFERENCE RESOLUTIONS
(BY TELEGEAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION ) WELLINGTON, Aug. 1. The Farmers' Union Conference resolved that in view of tlie shortage of coal, and also in view of the large demand for fertiliser-purposes, the Government be urged to pass a comprehensive Act so that the work of harnessing the water power of th e Dominion may be proceeded with as a whole or in detail.
It was also resolved that the Conference desires to impresse on the Government the urgent necessity for appointing two qualified farmers to act in conjunction with a Commissioner or members of a Land Board in the selecting and (improving of land for settlement within their own farming district; that the Union is strongly of opinion that the Minister of Lands should amend the Land Act to enable local bodies to receive half the royalty on timbers in all cases where the'value of the timber has been added to the value of the land; and that the Union considers it only fair and just that when lands have been disposed of, either for eash or otherwise, the usual accrued thirds should be allotted to the local road board or county council.
