LATEST OFFICIAL REPORTS

FROM FRANCE AND ITALY

Br CABLE—PEESS ASSOCIATION-

OPYB".GH_

(Received Aug. 1. 1.20 p.m.) LONDON, July 31 (4 p.m.) A French communique reports: After strong bombardments the Germans attacked our new positions east of Oulchy le Chateau. We repulsed the assault, maintaining our lines intact. On the right bank of the Ourcq there were lively engagements north-east of Fere-en-Tardenois. The village of Seringes passed from hand to hand, and was finally carried by an American counter-attack. Numerous enemy raids near Mesniles St. Georges, east of Montdidier, in the Bois le Prestre, on the right bank of the Meuse, and in the Vosges proved unsuccessful. We raided north-east of Perthes les Hurlus.

An Italian official report states: We completely repulsed a strong attack against Cornone. The air service bombarded military and harbor works at Pola for two hours with most important results. Serious fires were observed, ©specially in the localities of submarine and aviation stations.—Aus.-N.Z. C.A. and Reuter.
