The following is a continuation from page 8 of the hearing of to-day's appeals: Arthur Haggas, laborer, Kaponga, appealed on the ground that he was in Class D of the reserve. He stated that his wife and children were living in the Old Country, and he sent her remittances at intervals. He could not produce acknowledgments that the money arrived safely. Decision was reserved. The appeal of Mark Reynolds, farmer, Stratford, was withdrawn and formally dismissed. Archibald Nield Scott,- railway porter, Eltham, appealed on the ground of undue hardship. William James Swindlehurst, dairy farmer, Eltham, whose case was previously before the Board, had his appeal reviewed further. Arthur Edward ITcEwen, carriage builder, Hawera, had his appeal reviewed. Appellant produced certificate as to the state of his wife's health. The appeal was adjourned until the next sitting in order to obtain the evidence of Dr MacDiarmid. The Hawera County Council appealed for Charles Frederick West, enginedriver, and in charge of the Council's depot. Mr T. A. Winks, a member of the Council, gave evidence in support of the appeal. The appellant was practically an expert in his work, and altogether was -a most useful man, particularly with regard to the tar-boiling works. The county foreman (Mr A. Mugger- | idge) supported the appeal. It was impossible, he said, to secure another capable man to look after the tar boilers, except at Wanganui, but the men there could not- be 'spared. j The appeal was adjourned until Sep. tember. to enable the Council to see if they could secure another man to replace the reservist. Charles Thomas William Jones, blacksmith, Manaia, represented by Mr ODea, had. his appeal reviewed. There was no alteration in appellant's circumstances. , Decision was reserved sine die. j The adjourned appeal of Jacob I Meuli, farmer, Okaiawa (Mr Bennett) was reviewed. Appellant said he had obtained a sharemilker for one of his farms, but he had not made arrangements regarding the grazing portion of his farm, or the other herd. He desired three months'. leave to complete his arrangements. Leave was granted until the October draft-. • The Board gave its reserved decision! in th© following cases:—H. R.
