BOROUGH COUNCIL

The. ordinary meeting of the Eltham Borough Council was held last night. Present —The Mayor (Mr T. B. Crump), CrSj, Carman, Tayler, Smalley, Ballantine, Judd, Beesley, White, and Whiteford. Cr. Parrott sent an apology for absence, and leave was granted. The following reports were adopted: Works Committee. —The postmaster wrote re overhanging trees on section, .Eltham road, requesting that the owner of the section be requested to remove the trees. —It was recommended that the usual notice be served to owners. Mr <* A. Kallstrom, borough inspector, wrote tendering his resignation of the offices held by him. —Recommended that the .resignation be accepted, and that steps be taken to appoint a successor.

Applications for sewer drainage have been received from S. W. Norris and others, Bridge street west, and from the trustees of Brophy's estate. Such applications are held over pending report and enquiry to be submitted at next Works Committee meeting.

The borough overseer's and the inspector's monthly reports were received. The Commissioner of Stamps wrote advising that tbe tax issued to any amusement exceeding 6d, but not exceeding 2s 6d —Id. The Mayor and Cr. Carman had interviewed the Commissioner, and, as suggested by hjim, arranged to obtain a supply of tickets from the Government, tht cost ofo Sybmliqi —y^noqovd ment, the cost of which would include the tax. It was recommended that the tax be added to the price of the admission, and the public be notified.

RESOLUTION OF SYMPATHY

The following resolution was passed: That this Council expresses its sincere sympathy with the Hon. W. Carncross end his family on the occasion of the death in action of Lieutenant Cyril Carncross.
