Jack Lockwood, a voluble individual made his appearance before Mr S E' McCarthy, S.M., at Wellington on Sat urday (reports the New Zealand Times) He was designated a rogue and vaga^bond by the police, in that he was found sleeping in a stabl.e belonging to Henry Bodley without lawful excuse. Sub-In-spector Dew explained that defendant's real name was William McElwain ''Yes, ' replied the accused, "but I use the name of Look wood as a change. It was my mother's maiden name and I have a right to use it." Defendant who had been employed by Henry Bodley rattled away at a great rate, but eventually his Worship pulled him up by saying, "You have had a lot to say, but it does not help your case." McElwain said that he had left Bodley and Sons because the horse he had in his charge was given to a younger man who altered the methods of training. Accused had been drinking and was smoking a cigar on a bale of straw when discovered. A term of six months' imprisonment was imposed.
